Identify an advert
for each category. . . include a still image from it and a link
The genre of
advertising:
Realist.

Describe the
advert:
a. How has it been made (e.g. original
photography, animation, etc.)? I believe the advert has been made using original photography or Photoshop photography.
b.
What
images have been used in the advert? A perfume bottle, waves, rocks, flowers, and starfish.
c. How have they been treated/enhanced? The background is
blurred to emphasize the look of the perfume bottle. The objects surrounding the
perfume look to be smoothed out.
d. What colours have been used? Blue, white, grey,
gold, and yellow.
Now comment
on:
a. Target audience? Women.
b. How effective is it in your opinion? Quite effective as
it makes the perfume bottle look alluring.
c. What are the reasons for your opinion? The flowers, beach, and sun make you feel warmth and happiness making you want to reciprocate those
feelings with the perfume.
d. How would you change it? I wouldn’t.
e. Describe an idea for a follow-up advert? Bring out similar
adverts with different backgrounds to match with different perfumes.

advertising:
Anti-realistic narrative.

Describe the
advert:
a. How
has it been made (e.g. original photography, animation, etc.)? A mix of photography
and animation.
b. What
images have been used in the advert? A kitchen setting and animated penguins.
c. How
have they been treated/enhanced? It looks ever so slightly dulled down to pair with the dull-looking
penguins.
d. What
colours have been used? Brown, black, white, yellow, pink, red and green.
Now comment
on:
a. Target
audience? Younger generation.
b. How
effective is it in your opinion? Partially but not entirely effective.
c. What
are the reasons for your opinion? It’s irrelevant and doesn’t really speak to any audience too much.
d. How
would you change it? Brighten it all up and add something more to tie it to something
better.
e. Describe an idea for a
follow-up advert? The penguin family is somewhere else.

Hard sell.

advert:
a. How
has it been made (e.g. original photography, animation, etc.)? Animation and text.
b. What
images have been used in the advert? A lot of clocks.
c. How
have they been treated/enhanced? They are really bright.
d. What
colours have been used? Green, yellow, pink, white, red, green and black.
Now comment
on:

audience? Young adults.
b. How
effective is it in your opinion? Quite effective but could be better.
c. What
are the reasons for your opinion? The 50% off should be bigger to better grab your attention.
d. How
would you change it? Make the 50% bigger.
e. Describe
an idea for a follow-up advert? Things on sale.

images have been used in the advert? A Coca-Cola bottle outline.
c. How
have they been treated/enhanced? They have been imported onto a suitable background.

colours have been used? Red, white, and black.

audience? Teenagers.

effective is it in your opinion? Slightly alluring as it's Coca-Cola but overall, not that
effective.
c. What
are the reasons for your opinion? It could be more interesting and informative.
d. How
would you change it? Add more information and interesting things.

an idea for a follow-up advert? A different drink bottle outline.

advert:

How
has it been made (e.g. original photography, animation, etc.)? Photography and Photoshop.

images have been used in the advert? A woman’s face, a house, and a police badge.
c. How
have they been treated/enhanced? The face appears to be smoothed out.
d. What
colours have been used? Brown, black, beige, white, green and red.

audience? Homeowners.
b. How
effective is it in your opinion? Slightly effective.
c. What
are the reasons for your opinion? It’s telling you the information but not what will happen if you don’t
follow the information.
e. Describe
an idea for a follow-up advert? What will happen to burglars if they are caught.
Formal elements: Following a photography session, we learned about formal elements and found some information about them. We did a worksheet and found examples for it.
